Sworn translators of the Ukrainian language in Spain: official list 2026, translation jurado

sworn translators from Ukrainian to Spanish

Content

If you are applying for a residence permit, marriage, diploma recognition, or submitting documents to a court, bank, or Extranjeria (for residency or replacement), a regular translation is not enough. You need sworn translation (sworn translation), which has legal force in Spain. The problem is that there are only four official sworn translators of the Ukrainian language in the entire country. We tell you who they are, how to check their accreditation through the official register, and what to do when the necessary specialist is not nearby.

What is a sworn translation and when is it required?

Sworn translator (sworn translator-interpreter) is a professional officially appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAEC) after passing a state exam. His signature and personal seal give the translation legal force: Spanish institutions accept such a document without any additional legalization of the translation itself.

A sworn translation is almost always required when you submit a Ukrainian document to a government agency. Most often, it is:

  • certificate of no criminal record (criminal record) - mandatory for any type of residence permit;
  • birth, marriage, divorce certificates - for family reunification, de facto couple, child registration;
  • diplomas and certificates - for recognition of education (homologation);
  • court decisions, notarial statements, medical certificates.

Common mistake
A regular translation certified by a notary in Ukraine is often not accepted by Spanish authorities (especially Extranjería). Do not confuse a notarized translation with a sworn translation - in Spain, it is the latter that has legal force. sworn translation.

How many sworn translators of Ukrainian are there in Spain?

Ukrainian is one of the least represented languages in the MAEC register. For comparison: there are over 3,800 sworn translators of English in Spain, over 1,300 of French, and about 130 of Romanian. There are only 4 sworn translators of Ukrainian in the entire country.

This means two things. First, demand significantly exceeds supply, so the queue and price may be higher than for "mass" languages. Second, the good news is that you can order a sworn translation remotely from any corner of Spain: the translator works with a scan, files the printout with the translation, stamps it and sends it to you by mail. It is not necessary to be physically present.

How to check that the data is up to date
The MAEC register is updated, and translators' contacts may change. Before sending documents, it is worth calling or writing to clarify whether the specialist is currently accepting orders and what the deadlines are. Having your own website or recent reviews is a good sign that the translator is truly practicing.

How to find and verify a Jurado translator through the official MAEC registry

The only source you can trust on 100% is the official search engine of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Only it confirms that a person is indeed entitled to affix the seal of a sworn translator. Here's how to use it:

  1. Open the official MAEC buscador
    Go to the page Buscador de Traductores e Intérpretes Jurados on the website exteriores.gob.es.
  2. Select language (Idioma)
    In the language filter, select UCRANIANO. This will immediately filter out all others and show only Ukrainian translators.
  3. Narrow by province (Provincia) if necessary
    You can filter by the translator's place of residence. But remember: since the translation is done remotely, it is not necessary to limit yourself to your province.
  4. Check type and status
    The results have a title type (Translator / Interpreter) and activity status. To translate documents, you need a Traductor Jurado with the status "Activo".

In addition to language and province, their search engine also allows you to filter by year of assignment and country - this is useful if the translator lives outside of Spain.

Frequently asked questions

Does a sworn translation have a validity period?

A sworn translation itself does not have an expiration date. However, the original document may have an expiration date - for example, a criminal record certificate is often only valid for 3 months. Be guided by the "expiration date" of the original.

Will Extranjería accept a translation made from a scan?

Yes. The sworn translator has the right to work with a printout of the scan: he files it with the translation, stamps both sheets and dates them. You show the original to the inspector separately when submitting it.

Is it possible to get a notarized translation from Ukraine?

In most cases, no. Spanish government agencies accept sworn translations (sworn translation) with the seal of an accredited MAEC translator. A notarized translation from Ukraine for Spanish institutions is often insufficient.

There is no Ukrainian translator in my city. What should I do?

Order remotely from any of the four sworn translators on the list. The Spanish translation is valid throughout Spain, and the finished document will be sent by mail. Physical proximity is not important.

How can I make sure that the translator is truly official?

Check it in the official MAEC search engine for the language "UKRANIANO". If the person is not in the register or the status is not "Activo" - their seal will not have legal force.
