There is no single school calendar in Spain: each autonomous community sets its own start and end dates, holidays and non-working days. In the 2026–2027 school year, classes will start between September 4 and 15, 2026, and end between June 18 and 24, 2027. Below is a detailed breakdown by region and a comparative table of holidays.
Briefly about the main thing
Easter 2027 falls on March 28 ‒ almost two weeks earlier than last year. Therefore, the Easter holidays this time have been shifted to the second half of March, not April. Maundy Thursday ‒ March 25, Good Friday ‒ March 26, 2027.
What has changed compared to last year?
- Early Easter. In most regions, the holidays begin on March 20–22 and end on March 26–29. Only Aragon, the Balearic Islands, Valencia, La Rioja, Navarra, and the Basque Country have longer holidays, until April 2–5, because March 29 (Easter Monday) is an official holiday in these regions.
- A very generous December. December 6, 2026 (Constitution Day) falls on a Sunday and is moved to Monday, December 7, and December 8 is a Tuesday. This results in a four-day bridge from December 5 to 8 across most of the country.
- Christmas has "moved" forward. December 25, 2026 is a Friday, and January 6, 2027 is a Wednesday. Because of this, many regions have added January 7 and 8 as non-working days, and children do not return to school until Monday, January 11.
- November 1, 2026 is Sunday. All Saints' Day is being moved to Monday, November 2, so we have a three-day weekend, not the usual long weekend.
- Catalonia approves calendar for three years at once ‒ 2026‒27, 2027‒28 and 2028‒29. The start of studies in all three years is September 8.

Andalusia Andalucía
- Beginning: September 3, 2026 - nurseries (first cycle Infantil, 0-3 years); September 10 - second cycle Infantil, primary school and special education; September 15 - ESO, baccalaureate, vocational education (FP), art schools and adult education; September 21 - official language schools.
- Completion: June 23, 2027 for all levels.
- Christmas holidays: December 23, 2026 - January 8, 2027 inclusive. Back to school - January 11.
- Easter holidays: March 22-28, 2027 inclusive. Return - March 29.
- Holidays and non-working days: October 12, November 2 (postponed All Saints' Day), December 7 (postponed Constitution Day), December 8. March 1, 2027 - postponed Andalusia Day (February 28 falls on a Sunday). April 30, 2027 - Día de la Comunidad Educativa.
- School days: 181 for Infantil, Primaria and special education; 178 for ESO and the rest of the levels.
Andalusia approves the calendar by a separate resolution for each of its eight provinces. The base dates are the same, but an additional three local holidays, which are determined by the municipal school board - they should be clarified at the school itself.
Aragon Aragón
- Beginning: September 8, 2026.
- Completion: June 18, 2027.
- Christmas holidays: after morning classes on Tuesday, December 22, 2026 and until January 6, 2027 inclusive. Return on January 7.
- Easter holidays: March 25 - April 2, 2027 inclusive. Return - April 5. One of the longest Easter periods in the country.
- Holidays and non-working days: October 12, November 2, December 7 and 8, April 23 (Aragon Day, Saint George's Day).
- Provincial days: Huesca - February 18 and 19, 2027 and May 3; Teruel - February 18 and 19, 2027 and April 26; Zaragoza - October 13 and 14, 2026 (Pilar's feast day) and May 3.
In Zaragoza, there is a long bridge over Pilar: no classes on October 12, 13 and 14, returning on Thursday, October 15.
Asturias Principado de Asturias
- Beginning: September 9, 2026 for the second cycle of Infantil, Primary School, Special Education, ESO and Baccalaureate.
- Completion: June 23, 2027. The administrative school year lasts until June 30.
- Autumn break: October 30 - November 4, 2026 (six days including weekends and All Saints' Day).
- Christmas holidays: December 23, 2026 - January 10, 2027 inclusive - 19 consecutive days. Return - January 11.
- Easter holidays: March 20-28, 2027 inclusive. Return - March 29.
- School days: 177, divided into three trimesters of 68, 48, and 61 days.
Asturias maintains the model of "pedagogical breaks": in addition to the autumn one, the calendar includes two shorter periods of four days each. Plus two local holidays, which are determined by each consejo (municipality).
Balearic Islands Illes Balears
- Beginning: September 10, 2026 for Infantil, Primary School, Special Education, ESO, Baccalaureate and Initial and Professional Dance Programs.
- Completion: June 18, 2027 for most levels.
- Christmas holidays: December 23, 2026 - January 6, 2027 inclusive. Return - January 7.
- Easter holidays: March 25 - April 4, 2027 inclusive. Return - April 5.
- Unified School Fiesta: February 26, 2027 (Friday) is the only non-working day for all schools in the region.
- School days: 176.
March 1, 2027 - Balearic Islands Day - falls on a Monday. Together with the Fiesta Escolar Unificada on February 26, there is a four-day weekend from Friday to Monday.
Canary Islands Islas Canarias
- Beginning: September 9, 2026 - Infantil, primary school and special education; September 10 - ESO and basic adult education; the rest of the programs - in stages until September 21.
- Completion: June 22, 2027 - Infantil, Primaria and ESO; June 18 - Baccalaureate; May 14, 2027 - second year of Baccalaureate (due to preparation for entrance exams).
- Christmas holidays: December 22, 2026 - January 7, 2027 inclusive.
- Easter holidays: March 22-26, 2027 inclusive is the shortest Easter period in Spain. Along with the weekend, there is a break from March 20 to 28.
- Holidays and non-working days: October 12, November 2, December 8. December 7, 2026 - Teacher and Student Day, a day off for schools.
- Island holidays: September 8 - Gran Canaria (Ntra. Sra. del Pino); September 15 - Lanzarote and La Graciosa; September 18 - Fuerteventura.
Minimum 175 school days. Each institution additionally chooses its own free days, so the actual school calendar may vary.
Cantabria Cantabria
- Beginning: September 8, 2026 - Infantil, primary school and special education; September 9 - ESO, baccalaureate and vocational education.
- Completion: June 23, 2027 - Infantil, Primaria, special education; June 24 - remaining levels.
- Autumn holidays: November 2-6, 2026. Including weekends, there are nine days of rest.
- Christmas holidays: December 23, 2026 - January 8, 2027 inclusive. Return - January 11.
- Carnival holidays: February 10, 11 and 12, 2027.
- Easter holidays: March 22-26, 2027. Including the weekend - from March 20 to 28.
- May Day: May 3 and 4, 2027.
- School days: 175, divided into six study periods and five rest periods.
Special study modes have their own dates: music and dance - from September 16 to May 31; sports schools - from September 18 to June 24; plastic arts and design and adult education - from September 16 to June 24; language schools - from October 5 to May 31. January 30, 2027 - Día del Docente. September 15, 2026 (La Bien Aparecida) - regional holiday instead of November 1, which falls on a Sunday.
Castilla-La Mancha Castilla-La Mancha
- Beginning: September 8, 2026 for the second cycle of Infantil, primary and secondary school, vocational education, plastic arts, sports programs and adult education.
- Completion: June 22, 2027. The nursery operates until July 23, 2027.
- Christmas holidays: December 23, 2026 - January 8, 2027 inclusive. Return - January 11.
- Easter holidays: March 22-29, 2027 inclusive. Return - March 30.
- Other non-working days: December 7, 2026, January 8, 2027, and May 28, 2027.
- Days of free disposal: February 8 and 9, 2027 (Carnival) plus two municipal days determined by each city.
- Regional holidays: May 27, 2027 - Corpus Christi; May 31, 2027 - Castile-La Mancha Day.
At the end of May, there will be a five-day bridge: from Thursday, May 27 to Monday, May 31.
Castile and León Castilla y León
- Beginning: September 9, 2026 - second cycle Infantil, primary school, special education and transition programs to adulthood; September 15 - ESO, baccalaureate, vocational education and second year of plastic arts and design.
- Completion: June 24, 2027 - latest in Spain.
- Christmas holidays: December 23, 2026 - January 10, 2027 inclusive. Return - January 11.
- Easter holidays: March 20-30, 2027 inclusive - 11 days. Return - March 31.
- Other non-working days: October 30, 2026 (Día del Docente, Friday), December 7, 2026, February 8 and 9, 2027 (Carnival).
- Regional holiday: April 23, 2027 - Castile and Leon Day.
In June and September, a shortened school day (one hour less) is maintained. Plus two local holidays, which are determined by each municipality.
Catalonia Catalunya
- Beginning: September 8, 2026 for all basic levels. This year, for the first time, there is no distinction between Infantil, Primaria, ESO, Baccalaureate and Vocational Education - all start at the same time.
- Completion: June 21, 2027 - second cycle Infantil (3-6 years), primary school and ESO; June 17 - first year of baccalaureate.
- Christmas holidays: December 22, 2026 - January 7, 2027 inclusive. Return - January 8.
- Easter holidays: March 20-29, 2027 inclusive. Return - March 30.
- Regional holiday: September 11, 2026 ‒ Diada, National Day of Catalonia (Friday).
- School days: 177.
The calendar was approved by ordinance EDF/66/2026 for three academic years at once. Each school additionally has four days of free time, which are evenly distributed between trimesters and cannot coincide with vacations, plus two local holidays.
Ceuta Ceuta
- Beginning: September 8, 2026 - Infantil, primary school, ESO, baccalaureate and special education; September 10 - vocational education, official language school and plastic arts; September 23 - adult education.
- Completion: June 23, 2027.
- Christmas holidays: December 23, 2026 - January 7, 2027 inclusive, plus January 8 as a non-working day. Return - January 11.
- Easter holidays: March 22-28, 2027.
- «"White Week": March 29 - April 2, 2027, right after Easter. In total, there will be almost two weeks without classes in a row, returning on April 5.
In Ceuta, the calendar also includes Muslim holidays, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. Their dates are determined by the lunar calendar and are confirmed closer to the holidays themselves.
Valencian Community Comunitat Valenciana
- Beginning: September 9, 2026 for Infantil, Primary School, ESO, Baccalaureate and Professional Education of all levels.
- Completion: June 18, 2027.
- Christmas holidays: December 22, 2026 - January 6, 2027 inclusive. Return - January 7.
- Easter holidays: March 25 - April 5, 2027 inclusive - the longest Easter period in Spain. Return - April 6.
- Holidays: October 9, 2026 - Valencian Community Day; October 12 - National Holiday; December 8 - Immaculate Conception; March 19, 2027 - Saint Joseph, the culmination of the Fallas.
- School days: 179.
October 9 and 12, 2026 fall on a Friday and Monday, resulting in a four-day Pilar Bridge. Municipal school boards reserve three days at their discretion; new this year is the ability to exchange one to four school days for other non-working days, while maintaining the total number.
Extremadura Extremadura
- Beginning: September 10, 2026 for the second cycle of Infantil, primary school, ESO, special and vocational education. Nursery also starts on September 10.
- Completion: June 18, 2027; vocational cycles of intermediate and higher levels - June 4, 2027; nurseries operate until July 23, 2027.
- Christmas holidays: December 23, 2026 - January 7, 2027 inclusive. Return - January 8.
- Easter holidays: March 22-29, 2027 inclusive. Return - March 30.
- Other non-working days: December 7, 2026; November 23, 2026 - Saint Cecilia's Day (for conservatories only).
- School days: 177.
Each school chooses one school day as Día del Centro - an open day with cultural activities.
Galicia Galicia
- Beginning: September 9, 2026 for all core levels. Special learning modes may start by September 16.
- Completion: June 21, 2027; second years of professional cycles - June 15; second year of undergraduate studies - according to the dates of the PAU entrance exams.
- Christmas holidays: December 22, 2026 - January 7, 2027 inclusive. Return - January 8.
- Entroido (carnival): February 8, 9, and 10, 2027. Including the weekend, five days in a row.
- Easter holidays: March 22-29, 2027 inclusive. Return - March 30.
- Special dates: December 7, 2026 - Día do Ensino, non-working day (long weekend from December 5 to 8); March 19, 2027 - regional holiday; May 17, 2027 - Día das Letras Galegas.
Since March 19 (Friday) is a day off, and the holidays begin on March 22, Galician schoolchildren have 12 days off in a row - from March 19 to 29 inclusive.
La Rioja La Rioja
- Beginning: September 9, 2026.
- Completion: June 22, 2027.
- Christmas holidays: December 23, 2026 - January 6, 2027 inclusive. Return - January 7.
- Easter holidays: March 25 - April 4, 2027 inclusive. Return - April 5.
- Regional holiday: June 9, 2027 - La Rioja Day.
Municipal holidays are added to the calendar, so the exact dates should be checked with the specific locality.
Madrid Comunidad de Madrid
- Beginning: September 7, 2026 - nurseries, Casas de Niños, second cycle Infantil, primary and special education; September 8 - ESO, baccalaureate, vocational education, music and dance conservatories, official language schools; September 9 - second year of artistic cycles and higher artistic institutions; September 21 - adult education and first year of artistic cycles.
- Completion: June 18, 2027 for most levels; language schools June 25; nurseries and Casas de Niños operate until July 30, 2027.
- Christmas holidays: December 23, 2026 - January 6, 2027, plus non-working days January 7 and 8. Actually - until January 10, returning on Monday, January 11.
- Easter holidays: March 20-28, 2027, plus non-working days March 19 and 29. In fact, 11 consecutive days from March 19 to 29, returning on March 30.
- February break: February 12 (Friday) and February 15, 2027 (Monday) are non-working days for schools, but not holidays according to the labor calendar.
- Other non-working days: October 12, 2026, November 2, 2026, December 7 and 8, 2026.
For the first cycle Infantil (nursery and kindergartens 0-3 years old), only January 7 and 8 are valid from the entire list. Private schools with state funding can postpone one of the non-working days by decision of the school board. Local holidays are added separately: in the capital, these are November 9 (Almudena) and May 15 (San Isidro).
Melilla Melilla
- Beginning: September 9, 2026.
- Completion: June 23, 2027.
- Christmas holidays: December 23, 2026 - January 7, 2027 inclusive, plus January 8 as a free day. Return - January 11.
- Easter holidays: March 22-26, 2027 inclusive.
- Local holiday: September 17th is Melilla Day.
As in Ceuta, the calendar includes the Muslim holidays of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, the dates of which are determined by the lunar calendar. Melilla also traditionally has a "white week" - its exact dates are confirmed by the ministry, so it is worth clarifying them at the school.
Murcia Región de Murcia
- Beginning: September 8, 2026 - Infantil, primary school and special education; September 10 - ESO, basic vocational education, baccalaureate and adult education; September 14 - secondary and higher vocational education.
- Completion: June 22, 2027 - Infantil, Primaria, special education; June 21 - ESO, Baccalaureate and FP. Administrative matters continue until June 30.
- Christmas holidays: December 24, 2026 - January 6, 2027 inclusive, plus December 23 as a non-working day. Return - January 7.
- Easter holidays: March 22-29, 2027 inclusive for all levels. Return - March 30.
- Patronal days: October 26, 2026 - Plastic Arts and Design; November 23 - Music, Dance and Dramatic Arts; November 27 - Infantil, Primaria and Special Education; January 29, 2027 - ESO, Baccalaureate, Language Schools and Adult Education; February 1, 2027 - Vocational Education.

Navarra Comunidad Foral de Navarra
- Beginning: ESO and Baccalaureate - September 4, 2026; Infantil, primary school and special education - between September 4 and 8, the specific date is determined by each school.
- Completion: between June 18 and 22, 2027 depending on the level. First year of undergraduate studies - June 18; second year of undergraduate studies ends on May 17, 2027 due to preparation for the PAU entrance exams. The academic year officially ends on June 30.
- Christmas holidays: December 23, 2026 - January 10, 2027 inclusive; December 22 - morning classes only. Return - January 11.
- Easter holidays: March 25 - April 4, 2027 inclusive; March 24 - morning classes only. Return - April 5.
- Regional holiday: December 3, 2026 - Navarre Day (Saint Francis Xavier).
Navarra only sets a framework, and each educational institution approves the specific calendar. Therefore, the start and end dates of classes may vary from school to school - be sure to check with your own center.
Basque Country País Vasco / Euskadi
- Beginning: no earlier than September 7, 2026. Most schools choose September 8.
- Completion: no later than June 18, 2027.
- Christmas holidays: at least December 24, 2026 - January 6, 2027 inclusive. Return - January 7.
- Easter holidays: at least March 25-29, 2027 inclusive. Return no earlier than March 30.
- Carnival (Aratusteak): traditionally a week in February, with specific dates determined by each school board.
- School days: 175.
- Regional holiday: March 19, 2027 - Saint Joseph.
The Basque regulation sets only minimum limits, and the final calendar is drawn up by each school board - which is why dates in neighboring schools may differ. The regional calendar is also supplemented by local holidays of each municipality (for example, January 20 - Donostia Day in San Sebastian).

The "Start of studies" column shows the date for Infantil and primary school - in many regions ESO, Baccalaureate and Vocational Education start a few days later. The dates for Ceuta include the "white week" immediately after Easter. For Madrid and Ceuta, the Christmas period is given taking into account additional non-working days.
What else affects your school calendar?
The regional calendar is just a framework. The actual number of free days at a particular school is almost always greater, and there are three reasons for this.
- Local holidays. Each municipality determines two of its own public holidays per year. They are published in the official regional bulletin and in the city hall calendar. If such a holiday falls on a weekend, the school usually receives a substitute.
- Days of free disposal (días de libre disposición). In Catalonia, the Canary Islands, Castilla-La Mancha and other regions, the school board can choose a few additional non-working days. They are usually "glued" to bridges or carnival.
- Patronal days and Día del Centro. In Murcia, Extremadura, and a number of other regions, each level of education has its own patron, and the school chooses an open day.
Advice
The most reliable source is the school's own website or bulletin board: they publish an approved calendar with all local dates. The second most reliable is the official bulletin of the region (BOC, BOJA, DOGC, DOG, BOCM, etc.). Calendars on third-party sites are often outdated: many regions have changed the calendar design after the first publication.
A few practical points for parents
- Adaptation period in Infantil. If a child is entering kindergarten for the first time (3 years old), in most regions the first days are a shortened schedule with a gradual increase in hours. In Galicia, for example, the adaptation cannot last longer than September 15.
- Shortened day in September and June. Many regions – Cantabria, Castile and León, Ceuta, Melilla – introduce a shorter school day at the beginning and end of the year. This is worth considering when planning your work and comedor.
- Comedor and transportation during a shortened day. These services are usually available, but on a separate schedule. Applications are submitted at the end of the previous school year or in early September.
- Long breaks are a matter of conciliation. Autumn Week in Cantabria and Asturias, Carnival Days, "White Weeks" - most municipalities open city camps and care programs for these periods. See the city hall announcements a month before the holidays.
